About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious and commercially astute professional to lead new business development across MNK Group’s insurance broking operations in Southern Africa. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving growth across corporate and commercial insurance portfolios and positioning MNK International as a market-leading broker in key industries such as mining, construction, FMCG, manufacturing, and renewable energy.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong client engagement, broking leadership, and strategic foresight, while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and service excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the new business strategy across Southern Africa, identifying opportunities for expansion and market penetration
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with new and prospective clients, delivering tailored broking solutions across all insurance classes
  • Develop and implement strategic campaigns and initiatives that drive measurable growth and enhance MNK International’s market position.
  • Produce high-quality client-facing materials including proposals, market intelligence reports, pitch decks, and cost estimates
  • Oversee and support the full new business lifecycle—from lead generation and first contact through to proposal presentation and policy placement
  • Maintain robust knowledge of client industries, risk exposures, and market trends to ensure bespoke service delivery
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and placement teams to structure programmes for large and complex risk portfolios
  • Represent MNK International at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to promote brand presence and broker capability
  • Monitor and report on new business income, campaign outcomes, and key performance indicators
  • Contribute to team development by mentoring colleagues and fostering operational excellence

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will bring the following attributes:

  • Extensive industry knowledge, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the insurance or financial services sector, ideally within a broking or client-facing role
  • Strong track record in developing and securing new business, with demonstrable success in achieving revenue targets and growing market share
  • Technical competence across a broad range of commercial insurance products, including structuring complex multi-line programmes
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently and professionally with clients, insurers, and internal stakeholders
  • Strategic mindset, with the ability to assess market opportunities, anticipate client needs, and design innovative solutions
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative leadership style, with experience supporting and mentoring colleagues to drive collective success
  • Commercial awareness and financial acumen, including the ability to interpret client financials, assess risk appetite, and price service delivery appropriately
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), with the ability to produce polished proposals, reports, and presentations

Desirable Qualifications

  • A relevant degree in insurance, risk management, or business
  • Professional certifications such as ACII or equivalent
  • Completion of the RE1 Exam and full FSCA compliance in accordance with South African regulatory requirements
